Hymenolepis diminuta hatching egg in iodine stained preparation of faeces- spherical, yellow - brown shell, thin colourless embryophore 60 - 85 microns (note no polar filaments as seen in H. nana). Usual definitive host is the rat but humans may become accidentally infected after ingesting the intermediate host, flea or beetle.
